Yap Tiong Peng is a Senior Consultant Optometrist at IGARD Group in Singapore. As the principal consultant in Paediatric Optometry, Tiong Peng sees mainly children and vision therapy cases, but he also attend to clients who need spectacles and contact lenses. Tiong Peng is a part-time  lecturer with the Singapore Polytechnic - University of Manchester Optometry Degree Programme. He is currently also a visiting optometrist at the university medical centres in Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the National University of Singapore (NUS).

Tiong Peng is registered with the Singapore Health Ministry since 1998. His special interest is in Complex Optical Prescriptions, Orthoptic Vision Therapy (Binocular Vision), Paediatric Optometry, Low Vision and Occupational Vision. He is a member of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development and the Occupational & Environmental Health Society.

He received his optometry training in Manchester where he earned a UMIST Honours degree with a distinction in his research dissertation and project entitled 'ocular accommodation through spectacle reading addition lenses in myopia' (supervised by Emeritus Professor W.N. Charman at The University of Manchester). He also completed a Master of Science degree and the prestigious Diploma of the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in London. He had worked on a research project & dissertation in visualising the neuronal connectivity and functionality in the retina under the supervision of Senior Lecturer and Reader in Medical Imaging Dr A. Bharath and Dr H. Momiji.

He works actively on research and speaks frequently at professional conferences. Formerly a Research Fellow in Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Alexandra Hospital, he worked on research projects in evaluating the Quality-of-Life of patients suffering from eye diseases and visually-disturbing symptoms. Besides work, he is currently serving the Imperial College Alumni Association as the Honorary Secretary. In 2009, he relinquished his post as Vice President of University of Manchester Alumni Association which he served since 2005. At the community level, he has organised numerous community eye-care awareness projects with non-profit organisations.
